Purchase, Repair & Evaluation of Antique Clocks and Watches
Do you own antique clocks or watches and would like to learn more about their age, origin, technical condition, and value? We would be delighted to assist you and take the time for a personal consultation.
How a Consultation Works
First of all, we discuss your personal intentions with you. Are you looking to keep your clocks, or are you considering selling them?
If you are interested in selling, we determine whether the piece would be suitable for our collection. If so, we consult external references such as auction houses, galleries, and comparable market sources. Based on this reference value, we generally offer approximately half of the established market value for direct purchase.
Should the clock not be suitable for our collection, we are often able to recommend appropriate specialists, dealers, or auction houses and would be happy to point you in the right direction.
If you intend to keep your clocks, we will explore together whether restoration or servicing is advisable. Some antique clocks do require a certain degree of familiarity from their owners — for example, synchronizing a count wheel striking mechanism is not necessarily intuitive for everyone. At the same time, properly stored clocks — protected from humidity and direct sunlight — generally suffer no additional damage while not running.
One can truly appreciate an antique clock even when the movement itself rests. Antique clocks are like books: they carry a wealth of information far beyond simply telling the time. In fact, damage is more likely to occur when neglected clocks are put back into operation without proper servicing, as moving parts are no longer protected by oils and lubricants, and existing mechanical wear may worsen over time.
Regardless of the economic value of a particular clock, there are many pieces that may no longer be especially fashionable today, yet still possess such high technical quality that servicing them remains entirely worthwhile. After proper restoration, these clocks can often continue to run reliably for many years. We are happy to assess all of this together with you.
Following our consultation, you will have a clearer understanding of the age of your clocks, their geographical and historical origin, their technical condition, and whether a particular piece is suited to everyday life and long-term enjoyment.
Restoration & Repair
If you are considering having one of your clocks restored, we determine which restoration steps are necessary, whether the work can be carried out in-house or entrusted to one of our specialist partners, and we provide you with a detailed estimate. The decision is then entirely yours.
From large tower clocks to delicate ladies’ wristwatches, solutions can be found for virtually every requirement.
We look forward to welcoming you to our shop in Vienna.
